Fender Bender Causes Gas Tank to Explode, Killing One

On Sunday, May 10th, a Dodge Challenger rear-ended a Toyota vehicle, causing the Toyota’s gas tank to explode.

The Toyota traveled out of control off of I-495, with the driver being trapped inside the flaming car. The driver was unable to escape and was pronounced dead on the scene.

There was extensive damage to the Toyota, with only a blue front bumper and the frame of the car left intact. Police believe this vehicle was a 4 door passenger car.

It is important to note that in 2016, Toyota recalled 3.37 million vehicles over 2 defects – one of which was a faulty emission control, which lead to gas leaks within the unit. Toyota Corollas and Prius’ were the most affected by this recall.
