Kimmel Carter Partners Larry Kimmel and Mort Kimmel were honored to participate in a dedication ceremony at Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children on Monday, in honor of the late Father Oscar Frundt, a priest who was beloved to the Wilmington community and to the Delaware State Police troopers that he served.
Father Frundt, who passed away in 2015, left behind a significant donation to the children’s hospital, which Larry Kimmel presented during the ceremony as the executor of Father Frundt’s will. Mort Kimmel, who was a close friend of Father Frundt, also addressed the crowd on Monday.
In his remarks, Mort Kimmel explained how his family “adopted” Father Frundt decades ago, and how the priest in turn adopted the Kimmels as his own. Kimmel fondly described Frundt’s disarming humor and eccentricity, including his tendency to show up unannounced at the Kimmel house for dinner.
Father Frundt served as a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wilmington from 1956 until his death, and was a longtime chaplain with the Delaware State Police. He was well known in the Wilmington area for his spirit and sense of humor, and he was loved both by the community at large and by the state police force, who awarded him with the rank of colonel in 2009. He was also a dear friend to the Kimmel Carter team, and he attended many office holiday parties and gatherings over the years.
After losing his twin sister to illness at a young age, Frundt developed an affinity for children’s hospitals like A.I. duPont, which is commonly regarded as one of the best of its kind in the country. His donation will specifically support renovations to a space dedicated to children with developmental disabilities.
