From a small general practice law firm to the largest law firm in Delaware that exclusively handles personal injury and workers' compensation cases.

A brief history of Kimmel Carter

In 1972, Delaware attorneys Morton Richard Kimmel and Harold Leshem opened a general practice law firm on Market Street, in the heart of Wilmington.

Sadly, Leshem passed away shortly after. To continue the good work they started, Kimmel asked Samuel Spiller and Paul Spiller (Kimmel’s brother-in-law) to join the practice. Partners Ed Carter and retired Delaware State Police Captain Tom Roman came on, followed by Partners Bill Peltz, Jon O’Neill, and Kimmel Carter’s current managing partner, Larry Kimmel. With these additions came the ability to focus on car accident victims and injured workers, as well as becoming a trusted ally for injured law enforcement officers.

Now over 50 years later, Kimmel Carter is the largest law firm in Delaware to exclusively handle personal injury and workers' compensation cases. It’s also become a fixture in the Delaware community through charitable involvement and years of successful advocacy for injured Delawareans.

Throughout the years, Kimmel Carter not only expanded our team but also our locations. We have our main office on Route 273 in Newarak, as well as an office in Rehoboth Beach. Despite our larger size, we remain a family-based law firm with a commitment to being accessible, community-focused, and compassionate advocates for the people of the First State.

Since 1972, we've been dedicated to fighting for our clients' rights.

Our sole commitment is to helping motor vehicle and work accident victims get the compensation they deserve. Our experience and knowledge means that we get results, and we have the track record to prove it.

KIMMEL CARTER OFFERS:
  • Lawyers skilled in both settlement negotiation and fighting for you in the courtroom

  • Contingency fees respectful to what your case wins

  • Bilingual attorney for Spanish-speaking clients

We have the strength and experience to get the job done.

When you're injured in a car accident or on the job, you will probably face some pretty powerful adversaries, from huge insurance companies to employers who do everything they can to silence your injury claim.

Since we know firsthand how difficult it can be to deal with such tough opponents, especially in a time of extreme stress, it’s our goal to pool our collective resources to carry that burden for you, and to get you back on your feet as soon as possible.

What makes us different? Strength in numbers combined with decades of experience. Our attorneys win impressive compensation awards for clients time and time again, no matter how complex the case may be or how powerful the opponent may seem.

Our commitment to serving the Delaware community starts with having a great team – and a great office culture.

Along with a lineup of some of the most experienced lawyers in the state, our staff is comprised of a tireless and skilled group of legal assistants, paralegals and other professionals, united by a passion for getting our clients the compensation they deserve through responsible, compassionate and personal service.

But what really sets our team apart is a quality that is perhaps not valued enough in our field: kindness. As tough as we are in the courtroom, there is a sense of warmth and friendliness in our office that is unmistakable. That type of environment is not an accident – we think that it begins with hiring great people and is honed in regular office celebrations and outings and a firmwide dedication to ensuring that every member of our team feels valued, listened to and content for the duration of their time with us.

These efforts to create a positive culture are important to us in part because we believe that the happier our team is, the happier our clients will be. So as proud as we are of our legal awards, we’re equally honored that new staff members rave about the friendliness of their office mates and that Kimmel Carter was named a “Top Workplace” in Delaware by the Wilmington News Journal from 2015-2018, in 2020 and 2023.

Our attorneys are compassionate allies.

It starts from the moment you contact Kimmel Carter. You can always expect an attorney to return your call within 24 hours. If you choose to become a client, your lawyer will check in with you regularly to update you on your case – or just to see how you are doing.

And unlike other firms that dump some cases on junior staff, we pair you with a lawyer who will take the time to call and meet with you personally, while closely overseeing your case from start to finish. During your conversations with your attorney, you'll find a compassionate ally, a great listener and someone who believes that no detail is too small when your future is in the balance.

A FEW WAYS OUR CLIENTS HAVE DESCRIBED US:

"Mr. Kimmel is a hardworking, ethical and knowledgeable attorney who helped me obtain a judgment against my employer for a workplace injury. Even though my case was complex, Mr. Kimmel was extremely patient, detail oriented and able to navigate countless obstacles. I am forever grateful to Mr. Kimmel for his outstanding work and have recommended him to others."

"Mr. Peltz is a very caring lawyer he makes sure that you understand what’s going on in your case. He also never let's you leave his office with any unanswered questions.
