Top 5 Things to do Immediately After a Car Accident

For nearly 50 years, we have helped our clients following injuries sustained in a car accident. Here are 5 things you should do in the aftermath of a crash:

1. Call the Police:

Police statements and documentation are important, but do not forget to document the accident scene – video, photographs, and statements. Unfortunately, there are cases where the defendant admitted fault at the scene of the accident, but changed his story later on.

2. Seek a thorough and timely medical evaluation:

Timely means as soon as possible, and thorough means all areas of the body, as pain and sensitivity may develop in areas like your neck, knees, hands, and back, months after the accident. Receiving a medical evaluation that is thorough will catch injuries ahead of time.

3. Report the accident to your insurance company and the other driver’s insurance company

Contacting your insurance company is imperative. Take this time to review your current policy and, if possible, increase your PIP protection.

Be sure to collect all personal information and insurance information from the involved parties.

4. Be careful what you post on social media

Insurance companies will scour your social media pages – Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and Instagram, to find photos or statuses of you to discredit your injury claim. Do not post about the accident, your injuries, or photos on social media.

5. Consult an attorney as soon as possible

Consult an experienced Personal Injury Attorney as soon as possible, like the lawyers at Kimmel, Carter, Roman, Peltz & O’Neill. For a free consultation, call 302-565-6100
